You’ve pretty much said absolutely everything in regards to factual evidence as to how Glee mistreats Kurt and Blaine on…

My only (ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY) thought about the physical affection during the bodyswap scene was that that was the Kurt and Blaine in Tina’s head. She’s seen them be physically affectionate before, multiple times. Why would they censor themselves in her dream? Same with Brit and Santana. This is the only reason I can come up with for that to keep myself from getting upset.

The problem is, Glee is about as subtle as a jackhammer. When they want to tell a story, they fucking tell it, no depth whatsoever. The actors are providing all the depth. So Kurt and Blaine on script are telling one story (that they never speak and aren’t physically intimate,) while the actors are telling something entirely different (that they have great chemistry and love each other and are quite physically demonstrative in private).

Glee hasn’t learned how to translate the actor’s narrative into the script. Because they fucking suck. That’s why even their ~very special episodes~ seem so stilted.

I’d really like to just curl up in a ball and be upset because that last line you wrote pretty much summarized every relationship I had while in high school and I HATE that. That isn’t what I wanted Klaine to become.

Exactly. And don’t get me wrong, they’ve had more great moments than people give them credit for this season - especially considering how many episodes Blaine was away due to Darren being in Imogene/H2$. But the problem is, the show had been implying that the reason Kurt and Blaine haven’t been physically affectionate is because of their environment (and for good reason, considering McKinley.) However, Glee this season has taken it one step further and eliminated personal contact while in private, as if it’s something shameful. Examples: Ben, certain choir room scenes, the aftermath of DWS, not giving them a private scene (like in the bathroom???) of prom, the hallway scene in Big Brother, and the mother of all of them, fucking extraordinary merry christmas. (WHY IS THE BOX SCENE IN A HALLWAY.)

Glee has gone out of its way to establish Klaine’s spaces in public, so that they have an excuse to not show affection. However, the fact that they’ve essentially taken away their affection in private spaces makes their dialogue seem stilted and unnatural, like they should be hesitant to touch even when alone in a bedroom. And the way they’ve differentiated Kurt and Blaine in that regard pisses me off, because it’s telling those kids that having physical contact with their loved ones is unnatural and should be kept off-screen.

I could go into how Brit and Santana are having the opposite problem - how Glee just DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO WRITE LADIES and makes all of their problems essentially about making the private public, even when they want it to be private, and sexualization and how the two of them haven’t been allowed to have their emotional story be shown, etc, etc, but honestly the nyquil has sapped my ability to rage. Fucking Glee.

I know a lot of people freaked out today at the complete lack of Kurt-Blaine physical interaction, but I was completely and entirely unsurprised.

Maybe I’m just jaded with all of this at this point, but knowing Fox? Getting scripted physical interaction is very unlikely at this point. We’re really relying on Chris, Darren, the directors and (from what I’ve heard) the Anders brothers for our Kurt and Blaine moments. Little things, like that one light kiss Blaine gave Kurt in the choir room behind Finn’s head. That wasn’t scripted. I’m willing to bet that the two of them - or one of the directors - asked them to do something physical during each take, which forced some small moment to show up on our screen. The editing room is the real problem here.

And really, I am past the point of screaming about it in text posts at this point. I think moving Glee’s time slot for next week looks promising. And do we know what time it’ll be showing on Thursdays next year? I’m hoping for 9 then, as well.

It’s sad, really. The reason Kurt and Blaine make such a revolutionary couple is NOT because they are gay. There are white cismale gay characters everywhere on television now. It’s because they had a real and wonderful love story that did not make a big deal over the fact that it was two boys, but instead treated them like any other couple. That’s what was so revolutionary about their first kiss. And that’s why it’s so sad for me to see them now, because it’s become immensely obvious that they are being treated differently. And, to be honest, making them the “chaste, hand-holding gays” who give significant glances takes away some of the power of their storyline. Because it’s teaching the kids who saw Kurt and Blaine last season and thought “I can have that” and tells them “No, not really, because you’re different. You can have your love, but you can’t show it.” And goddamn if that doesn’t kill my spirit a little.
